My Week With Different PR
Y11 St Aidan’s pupil Rebekah Lindley tells us about her week’s work experience at Different PR.
“I had always wanted to pursue a career in media, but mainly the journalism aspect. I found media and journalism interesting as it meant that I got to know what was happening around me.
“I have just finished my GCSE’s, one of which was Media studies. I found media good at GCSE and so wanted to continue this into A-levels, which is what I am doing as well as Government and Politics and English Language. At university I would like to pursue Media as a degree. I thought I would do this course as it means that if I did fail in the journalism career I would still have a media degree and still could get a career somewhere else in media.
“After my GCSE’s we do Work Experience in which I really wanted to do something in Media. I went onto a website recommended by the school and saw Different PR. Beforehand I was nervous and worried about what I was going to be doing there. But as soon as I got there the nerves disappeared and the work that I did was easy to understand and do.
“On my first day I went to a meeting with David and afterwards was given the task of writing the minutes for the meeting. I was also told to write a blog, proof read and to write news releases. The overall experience was relaxing and not stressful.
“I hoped that through this experience I would be able to learn more about the media industry and know whether I still wanted to pursue it as a career. I also hoped that I would be able to experience different types of writing. I did achieve this!
“After this experience I learnt that I still wanted to work in the media industry and that there was lots of aspects to this. It also gave me more interest into media.
“I would just like to thank David and Different PR for the experience and making it joyful and helping me with the five-day work.”
