Gap Year Student Lucy Reast: “What I Hope To Get Out Of My Work Experience!”
“During my gap year I was keen to find placements that would develop key skills and give me a better understanding about what was out there for me following university. I wanted to go into sectors of work that I am interested in pursuing in the future and therefore a placement at Different PR was a great opportunity to learn about PR.
“Whilst at Different PR I am hoping to understand what public relations really involves. Getting involved in projects with local companies and institutions will allow me to learn the importance of media relations in the business environment.
“With a diverse base of clientele including Ashville College, Theakstons and Nick “Mr Loophole” Freeman, I have the opportunity to understand the process of promoting a brand positively using journalistic skills.
“Having taken English at A level and most likely taking it forward to degree level I recognise how important rhetoric is for businesses to effectively communicate with their customers. With both David and Richard having extensive experience in the world of media and public relations I feel that I can learn a great deal.
“From just being a few days in I am already being given hands-on experience including drafting news releases, conducting client research and attending client meetings and photo-shoots.
“By the end of my work experience I hope that I will have built up transferrable skills associated with public relations such as researching and using social media but most importantly developing my writing skills.
“Furthermore media and PR could prove to be something that I wish to take forward as a career following my degree.
