“I’m looking forward to seeing what public relations offers me,” says work placement student and blogger Brad Newby
Harrogate High sixth former student, Brad Newby, tells us in his own words about his love of the written word and what he hopes to gain from his time at Different PR
My name is Brad Newby, I am 17 years old and will be entering the daunting final year of school subsequent to my five day work experience placement here at Different PR.
I attend Harrogate High School and study English Language, English Literature, History and Psychology at A-Level. From a young age, I have always pursued an interest in writing, whether that be writing stories, reviews, letters, poems and so on. Furthermore, as I entered secondary school, I founded music magazine club, where a group of keen, budding writers and myself would meet up weekly and write articles about gigs we had attended and album/artist reviews.
I also set up a blog, which I continue to use, to write predominantly about gigs and music in general. Writing is something that I feel I am destined to do, simply due to the fact that I enjoy it. Moreover, I have always been 100 per cent certain that I will study either English or perhaps English Literature at university, however, I am still uncertain as to which course would be the most beneficial regarding the pathways that they would open up for me.
In addition, it is imperative that I gain experience into miscellaneous occupations that will enable me to have knowledge within that area, which will inevitably heighten my decisions in the future. This is why I am currently undertaking a five-day work experience at Different PR in Harrogate as it is something that will hopefully provide me with knowledge into an area where I have little insight in.
From this week, I hope to indulge in new experiences that will hopefully enhance both my communication and writing skills further. Public relations also has a journalistic element to it, which is useful as journalism is something I am contemplating going into in the future. I am looking forward to seeing what public relations offers me during my work experience at Different.
